Most popular methods to export OST file into PST file format

Method 1. Using Outlook Import/Export Wizard

With Import/Export wizard of Outlook, users can export data from offline OST file to PST format. It also offers an option to export the data in CSV and Excel formats. Follow the steps discussed below if you want to go with this method.

• Open MS Outlook 2016.
• Go to File tab and then choose Open & Export option.
• In the open window, select Import/Export option.
• Choose Export to a file option and hit Next button.
• Select Outlook data file (.pst) and hit Next.
• Select the folder to export from Outlook. Also, check subfolders and hit Next button.
• Click on the Browse button to save the exported PST file at desired location. Then, hit the Finish button.

Note:This method is applicable when the user is connected to MS Exchange Server.

Method 2. Use Archiving

Archiving is another feature of MS Outlook that can be used to export mailbox items to PST file. However, this method does not archive your contacts. Below are the steps of this process –

• Open MS Outlook.
• Go to the File tab and click on Account Information. Click on Cleanup Tools and then on Archive option.
• You will get an Archive dialog box. Make sure that ‘Archive this folder & subfolders’ option is selected. Also, choose the folder that you want to move to PST. Now, select the appropriate date for ‘Archive items older than’ & click OK.

Note: This method will export items from OST file data to PST format but does not consider contacts.

Method 3. Export mailboxes into new PST file

Here is another method that can be used to export mailbox items of OST file into a new PST file. Follow the steps discussed below with this method –

• Open MS Outlook email client.
• Create a new PST file in Outlook.
• Drag all mailbox folders to this newly created PST file.

Note: Contacts, Inbox and other default folders can’t be exported to PST file. You can simply copy these folders from OST to PST file.
